Villa Winternitz by Adolf Loos, Prague

Villa Winternitz by Adolf Loos, Prague

The villa was built by Adolf Loose and Karel Lhota in 1932 by Prague lawyer JUDr. Josef Winternitz for himself and his family: his wife Jenny, daughter Suzana and son Peter. The document on the assignment of the building signed by Loos and Lhota dates from September 5, 1931 and the "Permit to use the building" was issued on September 9, 1932. The construction of Loos's last house, including all preparations, permits and plans, lasted only a year.

Winternitz's villa shows typical elements of Adolf Loose's architecture, especially the unusual arrangement of the interior (the so-called Raumplan), thoughtful built-in furniture and carefully selected cladding materials in the interior. The resemblance to the famous Müller Villa is therefore by no means accidental.
